I am Kicking Television

Okay, another work in which I continue with the experimental style for ponies where they actually sorta look like horses and not quadraped marshmallows with duck faces.
This is also a bit of a transitional piece and an awkward one as far as finished products go.  This time my gripes have less to do with the composition and more to do with the shading.  Essentially I was fucking around with the shading on My Paint, using solid colours that could pass as shadow rather than a darker-yet-transparent brush tool. So far so good, but at some point I decide to futz around with one of the water tools in Set #3, but not in any precise way.  Nooooooo.  Instead I scrawl all over the shadows - particularly on Dash’s mom - and make a big hash of things.  Oh well it doesn’t look to bad with the finished product, but that’s because I have big ole’ drop shadow over everything, via GIMP’s Filters under ‘Light and Shadow’.  The light parts were achieved by taking the Soft-Eraser tool from My Paint’s ‘Set #1’ and careful rubbing it on spots to eke away the shadows and try to get a receding light effect.  So lots of experimenting all around and a valuable education.
Though some of you are probably more interested in Dash’s mom…well there’s a story behind that…
Also, I’ll confess the idea for this was inspired by Cartoonlion’s picture of Fillyshy asking for a juice box WARNING TACTICAL NUCLEAR CUTENESS INVOLVED.
